Oak couture is a public installation and photography project that was initiated by the PLAY JUMP EAT team from Messy Monkey Arts in conjunction with the Cape Town Fashion Week 2010. The initiative involved five different "creatives" dressing five big oak trees in Company's Gardens, each in 30 meters of fabric donated by Prelude Textiles. The following day five local fashion designers were given the opportunity to dress five professional models wearing the same fabrics and being photographed with coordinating tree installation.
Makeka Design Lab was paired with local fashion designer Stiaan Louw. Our tree was wrapped to create a swing that grew from the ground and weaved into the branches, and which created an interactive experience for the public and professional model.
